Where do you provide services?
Although we are based out of Northumberland County, we are able to provide services to all regions of Ontario. We only require proof of Ontario residency for services to be rendered.
Are your mediators certified?
All our mediators are either certified with one or more mediation associations, or are in the process of receiving their accreditation (under the supervision of a senior accredited mediator).
We at Alternative Decisions believe that education and skill development is not only essential for our clients, but for the next generation of service providers. As a teaching organization, we pride ourselves on continuing education, professional growth and mentorships; core qualities guiding our educational principal allow us to provide quality and effective programming.
Can I pick the mediator?
In order to promote neutrality and independence, we will pair you with a primary service provide that best suits the needs and wants of all parties that applied. It is essential that applicants provide extensive information in their applicant in order for administrative efficiency.

Who can be included in services?
Regardless of the service program being provided, anyone who is involved in the conflict, providing support to those involved, or directly impacted by the conflict/outcome, may participate.
Community members, professionals, religious advocates, support works, youth, family members, elders; All those involved are welcome. Those participating must consent to the protocols established by the service provider and clients.
Are there hidden fees?
Prior to any services, your mediator will go over options and costs of programming. Additional services and their costs will always be discussed prior to the inclusion in a program/plan of care.
Additional Costs include, but are not limited to;
-language interpreter fees
-third-party neutral meeting spaces
-testimonial fees
-credit card processing fess
If there are concerns about the ability to handle additional or programming costs, please speak with your program service provider about this concern.
Do I have to see other participants during the process?
Mediation and negotiation can be performed in either a private or joint fashion. If you wish to have private 1:1 sessions with your service provider. If you wish to have group (joint) sessions you may choose to do so if all parties consent to do so. Participants may choose to change from ‘private’ to ‘joint’ sessions at any point during the process, or vice versa.
